Soft orange flowers bloom over variegated green and white foliage. Although it can�t withstand the cold winters north of zone 7 it prefers shaded heat and wet feet; too much sun leads to the discoloration shown here.

Bob Hayes of the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens discovered this plant growing in Germany and named it �Stuttgart�. Mature plants (a rhizome rather than a bulb) reach 6� and higher depending on the growing season and care. This plant, at the Whetstone Park of Roses in Columbus OH is well over seven feet in September.
